Week Three

We had unusually warm weather in November and tried to take advantage of it as often as possible. Seth was great about trying to get me outside everyday so I didn't go insane being in the house all day. My friend Sarah was also good about getting me outside and we would go for walks around the block with our babies at least twice a week. During one of our walks Seth and I ventured to the track, we figured it was about time we took Champ to see his first track. We had a great time jogging around the track with the little guy and telling him old race stories.

Seth at the starting line getting ready to race around the track with Champ.
Champ likes to sleep with one hand on the side of his head like he is modeling!! I just love it!!
I already posted this picture, but Auntie I and her family came to visit us during Champ's third week. We love the Turnages and wish they were closer.
I was messing round with the camera and took this picture of Champ and thought it was so funny because it doesn't look like him at all!

Week Two

We were all by ourselves for most of the second week of Champ's life and he is lucky he's still alive. We didn't realize how hard it is to keep everything up when you have a baby. Our parents were with us the first week and did everything for us, so you can imagine our shock when were all by ourselves and had to do more than eat, sleep and hold and feed Champ. We went home to Grand Junction for the last part of the week though and were once again grateful for the assistance. Champ started smiling the during his second week. It was so much fun to see him smile, although I don't think he really knew what he was doing at that point. This may not look like a true smile, but its actually just poor photography we couldn't get him at the right moment and this was as close as we could get. :)
Champ trying out his gym for the first time. He wasn't too sure of it then, but loves it now.
There he is looking at the mirror above him, isn't he cute!!

Week One and Halloween

The first week home with Champ was crazy! We had a lot of help though, both my parents and Seth's parents came up to see Champ and help where they could. They fed us, cleaned our house, did all our laundry and finished all our little projects that we couldn't get completed in time. I don't think we could have made it without them and we are so grateful they made the trip up! Below are pictures of Champ's first week home and his Halloween.

We had two of our good couple friends and their kids over to carve pumpkins (before we had Champ). We had a great time, but unfortunately didn't take very many pictures because our hands were so gross from the pumpkin guts. But above is a picture of the food, I put dry ice in the drink to make it a spooky potion. :)
Our friend Holly and her 10mth old daughter, Cambria, getting ready to carve pumpkins.
Our friend's little boy, Ammon, playing on the couch and getting ready to decorate his pumpkin.
The back of Champ's Halloween "costume," soo cute!
We had a very low key Halloween. Both Champ and I were exhausted and slept all night while Seth handed out candy. Although we didn't sleep very well because of the door bell, we had crazy trick-or-treaters this year.
Little Champ getting ready to leave the hospital with a binky in his mouth (he hardly ever takes a binky now.) He's so dang cute!!
Abby holding Champ. She loves her cousin and always asks if she can hold him or help rock him to sleep. She says, " Tia, if I wash my hands and put the germ stuff on can I hold baby Champ?"
Seth about to take a nap with little Champ.
My dad holding Grant when he and Abby arrived on Friday.
I guess Seth needed a break from changing diapers and created a money game and was trying to teach Abby about money. They had a great time. I can't wait to see what kind of games he comes up with next.

Visit to Grandma and Grandpa Hejnys

Here are a few pictures of Leann and Grandpa Hejny holding little Champ when we when home to Grand Junction. Champ was only about two weeks old when we ventured out of the house, it was quite the experience. We were very glad we made the trip though, that was the first time Leann met her new nephew.

Turnage Family To The Rescue

Toby, Irish and Noah came to visit and take care of us the weekend before Thanksgiving. We had a great time with them and are so grateful for their friendship and fine cooking abilities. :) Plus, it gave Irish a good reminder of what she will be getting into again, she is having another little boy due in March. We love you guys! Can't wait to see you at Christmas.

CHAMP IS IN THE HOUSE!!!

As you can probably tell from the title, Tia finally took a rest and let her proud husband take a turn blogging.

This is a picture of Champ, I mean Grant when he was about 2 minutes old. Isn't he cute? He was born at 2:01 am on Wednesday morning, October 24th. He was 7 lbs 8 oz and was 19.5 inches long. You can tell that he was a little purple. He was having a hard time breathing and his oxygen saturation levels were really low.

Unfortunately Tia only got to see him for about half a minute before he and I were carted off to the Nursery (actually only he was carted, I walked under my own power.) When we got there he was placed in an oxygen tent but was still unable to get his oxygen saturation levels to an acceptable range. That's why he got put on this crazy machine.

I can't remember the machine's actual name but I think its Tranformer code name was "Oxygenator". It was a real blessing that "Oxygenator" was there as this is a very new piece of equipment to American Fork Hospital. Without this machine Champ would have got to enjoy an ambulance ride to Utah Valley Children's Hospital in Orem. However, after being on this for a while his oxygen saturation started looking a lot better but when they took him off the machine he was still struggling to maintain these levels on his own. I felt so bad for him. He was trying so hard but couldn't quite do it, and his reward for his efforts was getting stuck with needles about 10 times. Through the whole thing he was a real champ and never cried. I think partially because he couldn't really cry. He was borderline on his oxygen levels for a while and it looked like he may be spending some extra time in the oxygen tent but finally at 5:30 they tried this new medical procedure called giving him a sponge bath, and this was the real key to getting him on the road to recovery. I learned that you can poke and prod him with needles but don't try giving him a bath unless you want him to get really ticked off. He finally screamed and cried and after that he was able to breathe well on his own. And by 6:00 in the morning I was finally able to rejoin Tia for what I considered to be some well earned rest.

Enjoy a few pictures of our new baby boy!

No Baby Yet

Sorry guys, I know some of you have been checking the blog for signs of Champs arrival and there haven't been any. Sadly for me, bc my tummy is freaking huge and today is my last day of work (what am I gonna do if he doesn't come for another week,) he's not here yet. But, I'll make sure I have something posted when he does arrive, I promise. :) Hopefully it will be soon, everyone is getting really excited! Also, thank you for all your prayers and thoughts! Cheers!
