Almost Here

The baby is almost here and we can't decide on a name. I'm still in love with the name Kennedy, but Seth is dead set against it. We only have about three weeks until little boy Hejny #2 gets here and need help! Any good suggestions? Don't be bashful! Grant keeps suggesting the name Dragon. :)

Cherish Bound and Timpanogos Sotytelling Festival

I recently attended an amazing mommy blogger event for Cherish Bound and the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival. There was great food from The Blue Lemon and of course the company was great. Both companies were very generous to the attendees, thank you!

During the event we were able to watch two amazing performers tell their stories. Yes, I mean watch. They were moving around, adding actions here and there and even broke out into song a few times. It was wonderful, I was laughing so hard, and their stories were so funny.

Now, after having the opportunity to watch the storytellers, I can’t wait for the actual festival. The festival runs September 3-5, 2009. It will feature storytellers from around the nation who gather to entertain, educate and enlighten their audiences. The featured performers lined up this year look amazing. The festival is also offering workshops for adults and children on they can tell their stories. Checkout the schedule of events, workshops and more at www.timpfest.org.

Just a side note: I think Seth would even like the festival, and that’s saying a lot. :) I would even love to take Grant to the festival, but he is a little too young. Unfortunately, but understandably, they festival asks that all attendees be 13 years or older.

We also learned a lot about Cherish Bound and their commitment to storytelling. I will hopefully have a post about them soon.

Fall Family Pictures 2008

My friend Holly just got a new camera and took our family pictures at Sundance the other day, so I thought I would share a few with you. Thanks Holly!! The coloring is off on some of the pictures because I was messing with them on PhotoShop, but don't worry, Mindy is going to work her magic and make them "pretty" again. :)

My two favorite people in the world! Don't they look so cute! Grant loves sitting on Seth's shoulders. It's hallirious to watch Grant pat and pull Seth's hair while he's up there. :)

Major Update Coming

Just to let you all know...the blog will be "fully" updated this Sunday! Yep, this Sunday. Everyone keeps bugging me and I keep trying to get around to it, so I'm giving myself a deadline (plus Seth's mom is coming into town this Sunday, so there will be someone to play with Grant all day, because it's going to take all day to catch up!)

Grant's Baby Blessing

January was a very busy month, I think we were in Grand Junction about every other weekend. The weekend of January 12th was different though, we were on our way to Grand Junction to bless Grant, watch Tyler be baptized and confirmed, and attend Alyssa's blessing. Tyler was baptized and Grant and Alyssa were blessed all on the same day. We started the day off with Tyler's baptism and confirmation at the stake center. (We are so proud of Tyler and the little man he is becoming!) After that we went to my parents house for lunch and the two baby blessings. Alyssa was blessed first by her father, Lanny. Lanny did a great job and Alyssa was a little angle, she didn't make a peep during the whole thing. Then it was Seth and Grant's turn. They both did great, especially since Grant was so tired. I don't think I have ever been more proud of my husband. Just seeing him holding our son made me cry (I was also running on about 3-4 hrs of sleep, Grant is not a sleeper). Seth had this look of pride, confidence and awe like, "yes, this is son, isn't he awesome! I don't know what I am doing, but I'm going to give him everything I have." I know that probably doesn't make sense, but it was amazing and the blessing was beautiful. January 12th was definitely a day worth remembering and worth every bit of effort put into it (I was crazy sick the whole time , you can tell in the pictures by my lack of makeup and red nose. I was so sick that when we got back to Utah I had to have surgery on my ear from a wicked bad ear infection that would not go away, fun).

Happy New Years!

I can't believe its 2008 already! We had a low key New Years, but it was fun. We went to a friend's party where we played games and ate way too much food. The party started early and I think we ended up leaving early too. We went home around 10:00 because we were so tired and Grant couldn't sleep at their house with all the noise. It was a great way to bring in the New Year though!

Christmas 2007- Champ's 1st Christmas

We had a wonderful Christmas this year. It really hit home for Seth and I as we now have our own baby boy. We spent the Holiday with my family since Seth's was in Kansas and we weren't ready to make the 12 hr drive with a 2 month old baby. Christmas in Grand Junction with the Babbels was great though; all the kids had matching pjs (thanks Nana and Papa), we had good food and a good time just being together. Grant is still a little young for Christmas though, and didn't quite understand what was going on when everyone gathered together to open presents. In fact all the noise from the tearing wrapping paper scared him and made him cry. We were able to spend some time with Pop and Nana Jordan over Christmas break. Pop and Nana loved holding the babies.
They look so cute in their candy cane pjs! Doesn't Grant just look like a brute in this picture? :) I love it! I can't believe they are only two days a part. They are going to have so much fun together when they're a little older.

It was great having all the nieces and nephews around because they always kept the babies entertained. In this picture my mom and I are holding the little ones and showing them Abby's Christmas book while Abby sang them the special Christmas song, "What shall we put on the Christmas Tree." It was adorable and I can still remember all the words to the song! Thanks for being so dang cute Abby!!

We ate like kings and queens when we were at home. Mom made prime rib and crab for Christmas dinner, YUMMY!! We even had aus jus and horseradish sauce to go with the prime rib!! There's actually a funny story behind the prime rib. I love cooking and always help my mom cook when I'm home. We're quite adventurous and like to look up and try new recipes and the prime rib was going to be our grand master piece. Except even after all our research and planning the prime rib wasn't quite done cooking by time everyone was sitting down for dinner. It was still as raw as could be in the middle!!

Irish and Adrienne came over on Christmas and we had our traditional gift exchange. It was great seeing them! They are two of the most amazing people I know and I feel so blessed to have such friends!

The Blog Has Been Updated!!! Yeah!!

Hey everyone! I finally updated the blog. I know its been a long time and its still not totally caught up, but its a work in progress and I'm trying to have it caught up by this weekend (if there is such as thing as being caught up in blogging). At The Hospital

Below are a few more pics from Champ's birth. My mom was with me the whole week. She came to Utah on Monday to help move things along after I had been having crazy back labor all Saturday and Sunday (Champ was posterior.) We went to the hospital late Monday night, but I was turned away because I was not progressing fast enough (I was sooo mad.) I had a doctors appointment Tuesday morning and had dilated quite a bit, so we knew Champ would be coming soon. I think I walked the whole of every store in Utah with my mom (Seth went climbing the whole day) until about 6:30 pm when we decided that it was time to go to the hospital. When we got there I found out Dr. Jones was on call and I was so excited. I really wanted Dr. Jones to be my Dr. throughout the whole pregnancy, but he wasn't accepting any new patients at the time so I went with Dr. Smith instead. Anyways, Dr. Jones admitted me, YEAH!! and after no sleep for the past few days I gave up on my hypnobirthing and asked for an epidural. Both Seth and my mom said I was much nicer once I had the epidural, and I have to admit I think they were right. :) Now that I look back on it was actually quite funny. Anyways, they gave me the drugs, I feel asleep and when the nurse woke me up it was almost time to push. I ended up pushing for about 25 minutes and was relieved/overjoyed when they placed him on my chest. He was and still is beautiful!! I guess I was kind of out of it and didn't realize how purple he was and was upset when they took him from me so quickly. However, I am very thankful for the great nurses and doctors who took such good care of Champ when he was in trouble. We feel very blessed to have had such a great staff working that night!! They hooked me up to an IV since I opted for an epidural and all the liquid made me crazy swollen. I can't believe I'm posting this picture, but you can see how swollen I got from just a few hours of being on the IV.
This is a picture of the ice pack they give you to sit on after giving birth. Yep, its a rubber glove filled with ice cubes....talk about uncomfortable.
I have never in my life had "cankles" until after I gave birth!! I was soooo swollen. I weighed significantly more after I gave birth from all the fluid they gave me than I did before I gave birth!!! Talk about depressing!

Week Seven!!

We went home again and after taking Grant out of the car we noticed that he was sleeping with his hat over his eyes, poor guy. This is also the only picture we have of him from his 7th week, sad! I haven't been taking as many pictures since I've been working, but as a NYR I'm going to start taking a lot more pictures. He is growing so fast and I want to capture every moment!

We still haven't broken him from his swing. Its hard to break him of something that makes him sleep so well! :)

Week Five

These are my favorite five week pictures of Champ!!! He is sooo cute and I just love him. I love being a mom. Being a mom is the hardest and most fulfilling thing I have ever done!

I started back to work after only being off five weeks and it was extremely hard going back. However, I have a great employer who let me switch to working part time from home. I only have to go to the office on Monday and the rest of the time I work from my home office, its great. Going back to work was a huge change though, instead of sleeping during his nap, I had to learn to work. I miss my nap times!!

One Month!!

The pictures below are when Champ was a month old. Here is a quick summary of Champs first month.

1. He had his first diaper blowout his second day home.
2. We brought him home on Thursday and by Friday afternoon I took him to the doctors because I thought his wee was infected (Seth insisted he be circumcised), but of course it was perfectly fine and I was being an over protective mother.
3. By the second week, I had been peed on three times and pooped on once.
3. By his two week checkup he had gained almost two full pounds over his birth weight.
3. He began smiling at two weeks.
4. He started rolling over at three weeks (front to back). I couldn't believe it! I thought it was an accident so I put him on his tummy again to see if he could duplicate the movement and he did!!
5. He will stand up on his legs for a few seconds if you keep him balanced.
6. For almost a full month I slept on the couch or futon and he slept with me or in his swing.
7. We did everything we said we would never to do keep him happy.
8. We thought he might have colic
9. He wouldn't take a binky
10. He ate every two hours until just this last week.
11. He was awake and alert all the time, he would NOT sleep for anything!! In fact, I got wicked sick from not getting enough sleep.
12. He knows by how you hold him if you are trying to put him to sleep or not.
13. When you hold him he has to be facing out so he can see whats going on otherwise he will cry.
14. He used to hate having his diaper changed, but now he loves it.

This is actually a three week picture, but I'll keep it here anyways. At three weeks Champ would do Power Ranger/karate moves with his arms when ever you laid him down.
